Artist's Description

The Gion district of Kyoto is fascinating. This is a back alley of the old section, which looks like a cleaned up version of what it would have probably looked like back in the Edo period, which was before Japan was opened up to the outside world. This is the last remnant of the time of the samurai.

Within 500 feet of this shot is a bustling thoroughfare, complete with a multi-lane city street and countless shops and shoppers. Stray but a little off that path, and you arrive in a place that is tranquil and not a little bit older.

The old and the new co-existing. That is Kyoto to me.

About Brad Brizek

Brad Brizek

Welcome! I'm originally from the southeast corner of Pennsylvania (just above Amish country), but I've traveled a good bit of the planet. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona. I've been taking photos since 2006 and have been refining my style ever since. I have a particular passion for landscape, architectural, and transportation themes, although I've been known to do abstracts from time to time. If you like what you see, please come back regularly as I upload new shots all the time. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll find something that interests you!
