Artist's Description

This is a gate in the Emperor's palace in Kyoto, Japan. Ironically enough, you can get in on the day you show up if you're a foreigner, but there's a 2 month wait if you're actually Japanese. That would be like inviting anyone on a tourist visa into the White House, but barring US citizens. Strange, right?

Anyway, the grounds were well kept and spacious, as you'd expect. Most of the interior was actually maintained in the same way it was hundreds of years ago. The emperor doesn't actually live in any of the old buildings here, but does have a residence on the compound.

To me, this had to be a black and white shot. A simple shot of a locked gate that makes you wonder what's on the other side...

About Brad Brizek

Brad Brizek

Welcome! I'm originally from the southeast corner of Pennsylvania (just above Amish country), but I've traveled a good bit of the planet. I currently reside in Tucson, Arizona. I've been taking photos since 2006 and have been refining my style ever since. I have a particular passion for landscape, architectural, and transportation themes, although I've been known to do abstracts from time to time. If you like what you see, please come back regularly as I upload new shots all the time. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you'll find something that interests you!
